Prince Lazar

Serbian ruler (c. 1329 – 1389), prince (knez) of Moravian Serbia from 1371, with his capital at Kruševac — the largest and best-organised of the states that arose from the ruins of Dušan’s empire. He repelled the Ottomans at Pločnik in 1386 and led the Christian army at Kosovo in 1389, where he lost his life. Venerated as a martyr and saint, he became the central figure of the Kosovo legend.
