Bayezid I
Ottoman sultan from 1389 to 1402, the son of Murad I, called Yıldırım, “the Thunderbolt”. He succeeded his father at Kosovo, where he had his brother Yakub killed, conquered Bulgaria and northern Greece, blockaded Constantinople from 1394 and in 1396 destroyed the crusading army at Nicopolis. In 1402 Timur defeated and captured him at Ankara, and he died in captivity the following year.
