Louis VII of France
Capetian king of France from 1137 to 1180. Married to Eleanor of Aquitaine in 1137, he took the cross at Vézelay in 1146 and led the French army of the Second Crusade, which was mauled in Anatolia and failed before Damascus. The marriage was annulled in 1152, and Eleanor's lands passed with her to Henry of Anjou, the future Henry II of England; Louis's son by his third marriage was Philip II Augustus.
