Minamoto no Yoshitsune
Japanese general, younger half-brother of Minamoto no Yoritomo and the most celebrated commander of the Genpei War. He drove Minamoto no Yoshinaka from Kyoto and defeated the Taira at Ichi-no-Tani (1184), Yashima and Dan-no-ura (1185); soon after, he fell out with Yoritomo, fled to the Northern Fujiwara at Hiraizumi and died there in 1189, becoming one of the great tragic heroes of Japanese legend.
