Kʼinich Janaab Pakal I
Maya king of Palenque, known as Pakal the Great, who took the throne at the age of twelve in 615 and reigned for 68 years. He restored the kingdom of Baakal after its sack by the Snake (Kaanul) kingdom, later based at Calakmul, enlarged the Palace and was buried in the Temple of the Inscriptions, where his tomb with its carved sarcophagus and jade mask was found in 1952.
