Pulakeshin II
Chalukya king of Vatapi (Badami) from about 610 to 642, a son of Kirtivarman I, who overthrew his uncle Mangalesha and made the Chalukyas masters of most of the Deccan. He repulsed Harsha on the Narmada, placed his brother Vishnuvardhana over the eastern Deccan and fought the Pallavas, who took his capital around 642; he probably died in that war. His court poet Ravikirti celebrated his conquests in the Aihole inscription of 634/635.
