Narasimhavarman I
Pallava king of Kanchipuram (630–668), son of Mahendravarman I, known as Mamalla, ‘the great wrestler’. He threw back Pulakeshin II’s invasion, took the Chalukya capital Vatapi around 642 and assumed the title ‘taker of Vatapi’. Many of the rock-cut monuments of Mamallapuram, the town named after him, are attributed to his reign.
