Samudragupta
Gupta emperor (reigned from c. 330–350 to c. 375), son of Chandragupta I and the Licchavi princess Kumaradevi. His wars, celebrated in the Allahabad pillar inscription composed by his courtier Harishena, made the Guptas the leading power of northern India; he performed the horse sacrifice and was praised as a poet and musician.
