Srivijaya
Malay maritime kingdom centred on south-eastern Sumatra, probably at Palembang, first recorded in Chinese sources of the 670s, among them the pilgrim Yijing, and in Old Malay inscriptions of the 680s. Controlling the Strait of Malacca, it became the hegemon of maritime Southeast Asia and a centre of Buddhist learning; its power declined after the Chola raids of 1025.
