Abdallah ibn Yasin
Maliki scholar of the Gazzula Berbers, a pupil of Waggag ibn Zallu at his ribat in the Sous, who around 1040 (the dates given range from 1039 to 1046) was sent to teach Islam to the Sanhaja nomads of the western Sahara. Expelled by the Gudala for his harsh rigour, he found support among the Lamtuna and became the spiritual leader of the Almoravid movement; he was killed fighting the Barghawata of the Atlantic plains in 1058 or 1059.
