Abraha
Christian ruler of Himyar of Aksumite origin, who in the 530s seized power from the client king set up by Kaleb and reigned at least until the late 550s. His inscriptions record the repair of the Marib Dam and campaigns deep into Arabia; Islamic tradition makes him the leader of the expedition against Mecca in the “Year of the Elephant”.
