Person
Balaputra
Shailendra prince and maharaja of Suvarnadvipa (Sumatra) in the mid-9th century, known chiefly from the Nalanda copper plate of the Pala king Devapala, which records his foundation of a monastery at Nalanda. The plate makes him the son of Samaragravira and of Tara, daughter of King Dharmasetu, and the grandson of a Shailendra king of Java; George Coedès regarded him as the first Shailendra ruler of Srivijaya.
