David IV the Builder
King of Georgia from 1089 to 1125, of the Bagrationi dynasty, called the Builder. Coming to the throne at sixteen in a country ravaged by Seljuk invasions, he stopped paying tribute to the sultan in 1099, reformed the army — settling Kipchak warriors in Georgia and forming a royal guard — routed a Muslim coalition at Didgori in 1121 and took Tbilisi in 1122, opening Georgia's golden age. The Georgian Church venerates him as a saint.
