Harold Godwinson
Earl of Wessex, son of Earl Godwin and brother-in-law of Edward the Confessor, chosen king by the English magnates when Edward died in January 1066. He destroyed the Norwegian invasion at Stamford Bridge but was killed at Hastings less than three weeks later — the last crowned Anglo-Saxon king of England.
