Kara-Khanid Khanate
Turkic khanate, probably of Karluk origin, that ruled much of Central Asia from the 9th or 10th century to 1212, with capitals at Kashgar, Balasagun and Samarkand. Its khan Satuq Bughra converted to Islam in the 10th century, and in 999 the Karakhanids took Bukhara from the Samanids; the khanate later split in two and fell under the Seljuks, the Qara Khitai and the Khwarazmshahs.
