Person1124–1187
Raynald of Châtillon
French knight who came east with the Second Crusade, became prince of Antioch by marrying Princess Constance (1153–1160/61), spent some fifteen years as a prisoner in Aleppo and, released in 1176, became lord of Transjordan. His raids on Muslim caravans and his Red Sea expedition of 1183 made him Saladin's bitterest enemy; after Hattin Saladin executed him, with his own hand according to several accounts.
