Vsevolod I of Kyiv
Son and favourite of Yaroslav the Wise, prince of Pereiaslav on the steppe frontier from 1054, where he was the first to meet the Cumans in the 1050s–1060s. Married to a Byzantine princess — by tradition a daughter of Constantine IX Monomachos — and father of Vladimir Monomakh, he ruled Kyiv in 1077 and from 1078 until his death in 1093.
