al-Mu'izz ibn Badis
Zirid emir of Ifriqiya (1016–1062), who came to the throne as a child. Under pressure from the Maliki jurists of Kairouan he broke with the Fatimids of Cairo and recognised the Abbasid caliph in the 1040s; the Fatimids answered by sending the Banu Hilal, who defeated him at Haydaran in 1052 and forced him to leave Kairouan for Mahdia in 1057.
