Hammadids
Sanhaja Berber dynasty of the central Maghreb (present-day Algeria), founded when Hammad ibn Buluggin, a son of the first Zirid ruler, broke away from his Zirid kinsmen. From their fortified capital, the Qal'a of the Banu Hammad, they ruled a prosperous emirate; under pressure from the Banu Hilal they moved the capital to Béjaïa on the coast by 1090, and the Almohads annexed their lands in 1152.
