Kül Tegin
Prince of the Second Turkic Khaganate, younger son of Ilterish Qaghan and its foremost commander. In 716, after the death of his uncle Qapaghan, he killed Qapaghan’s son, who had taken the throne, with most of his kin and followers, and raised his own brother Bilge to power. When he died in 731, Emperor Xuanzong of Tang sent envoys to mourn him and had a stele set up with a Chinese text of his own composition; its Old Turkic inscription is one of the Orkhon inscriptions.
