Emperor Xuanzong of Tang
Li Longji, Tang emperor from 712 to 756, the longest reign of the dynasty. His Kaiyuan era was the height of Tang power and culture, but his trust in the chancellors Li Linfu and Yang Guozhong and in the general An Lushan ended in the An Lushan rebellion, which drove him from Chang’an and cost him the throne.
