Tonyukuk
Bilge Tonyukuk, counsellor and commander of the Second Turkic Khaganate from Ilterish Qaghan to Bilge Qaghan, whose father-in-law he was. The Old Book of Tang has him warn Bilge Qaghan against building walled towns and temples, since the Turks’ strength lay in their mobility. His own runic inscription at Bain Tsokto is among the oldest texts in a Turkic language. He is often identified with Ashide Yuanzhen of the Chinese histories, but this is disputed.
