Qara Khitai

The Western Liao, a Central Asian empire founded by Khitans who fled west under Yelü Dashi as the Jurchen Jin destroyed the Liao. Ruling a mostly Turkic and Iranian population with Chinese administrative forms, it made the Karakhanids, Khwarazm and Qocho its vassals and crushed the Seljuks at Qatwan (1141); the Naiman Kuchlug usurped it in 1211, and the Mongols conquered it in 1218.
