Tughril Beg
Grandson of Seljuk and founder of the Seljuk Empire, proclaimed sultan in 1037–1038. He led the Oghuz Turks into Khorasan, defeated the Ghaznavids at Dandanaqan (1040), took Baghdad from the Buyids in 1055 and turned the Abbasid caliphs into figureheads.
