Battle of Bouvines
King Philip II Augustus of France defeated the coalition of Emperor Otto IV, the Count of Flanders and their English allies, securing the lands he had taken from King John of England.

The battle ended the war in which King John tried to win back Normandy and Anjou. The victory strengthened the power of the French Capetians; Otto IV lost his support and soon yielded the crown to Frederick II of Hohenstaufen, while the weakened English king faced a rebellion of his barons.
