Fall of Acre
After a six-week siege the army of the Mamluk sultan al-Ashraf Khalil stormed Acre, the last major crusader stronghold in the Holy Land.

The sultan arrived before the city in early April 1291 with a huge army and many siege engines. The defenders — the city militia, Templars, Hospitallers, Teutonic Knights and contingents from Cyprus — made sorties, but on 18 May the Mamluks broke into the city; the Templars’ fortress held out for about ten days more. In the following months the Franks abandoned Tyre, Sidon, Beirut and the other coastal towns, and the history of the crusader states in the Levant came to an end.
