First Mongol invasion of Japan
A Yuan–Korean fleet ravaged the islands of Tsushima and Iki and landed an army in Hakata Bay on Kyushu, but withdrew after fighting the Japanese samurai.

Kublai repeatedly demanded that Japan recognize his authority, but the government of the Kamakura shogunate, headed by Hōjō Tokimune, left his embassies unanswered. The landing in Hakata Bay took place on 19 November 1274, and the battle on the following day. The reasons for the fleet’s swift departure are still debated: supply difficulties, Japanese resistance and bad weather are all cited.
