Annexation of Pskov by Moscow
Vasily III abolished the self-government of the Pskov Republic: the veche was dissolved, the veche bell was taken down and carried off to Moscow, and the city was placed under governors appointed by the grand prince.

In January 1510 Vasily III, who was then in Novgorod, detained the Pskov posadniks (mayors) who had come to him and sent a dyak (state secretary) to Pskov to demand submission. At dawn on 13 January the veche bell was taken down; some 300 wealthy Pskov families were deported, and their estates were handed out to Muscovite servicemen.
