Construction of the Moscow Kremlin walls and towers
Italian masters commissioned by Ivan III replaced the dilapidated white-stone walls of the Kremlin with brick walls and towers, giving the fortress its present outline of an irregular triangle.

Work began in 1485, and most of it took about ten years; it was led by Anton Fryazin, Mark Fryazin, Pietro Antonio Solari and Aleviz Fryazin, while some sections were still being completed as late as 1516. The swallowtail merlons and the look of the towers recall the castles of northern Italy — the Scaliger castle in Verona and the Sforza Castle in Milan.
