Battle of Ridaniya
Outside the walls of Cairo, the army of Selim I defeated the forces of the last Mamluk sultan, Tuman Bay II; Egypt passed under Ottoman rule.

The Mamluk guns proved useless against the Ottoman artillery; the grand vizier Hadım Sinan Pasha was killed in the battle. Coming after the rout of the Mamluks at Marj Dabiq (1516), this battle sealed the fate of the Mamluk Sultanate: Tuman Bay still tried to resist, but in April 1517 he was captured and executed.
