Coronation of Daniel of Galicia
At Drohiczyn on the Bug a papal legate crowned Daniel Romanovich, Prince of Galicia–Volhynia: he took the title King of Rus’, counting on help from the West against the Horde.

Pope Innocent IV had offered Daniel the crown and the promise of a crusade against the Mongols in exchange for a church union with Rome. No real help followed and the union never took effect, but Daniel’s descendants bore the royal title until the early 14th century.
